Endless Summer Afternoons

each endless summer afternoon

draws into another, long and stretched

a tray of ice pulled too soon

it’s form melted, it’s taste spent

those endless summer afternoons

in LA, with smog descending

the sage brush in its brown cocoon

signifies, eternally, the green time ending

those endless summer afternoons

drag on like tired dog in beating sun

make tourists blush and bleetly croon

of endless heat, and beach, what fun!

those endless summer afternoons

weigh heavy, and stick down to our backs

eagerly dusk greets cooling moon

and golden light fills each our cracks

those endless summer afternoons

leave me feeling spent as debt

dreary piano played out of tune

like the notes have some regret

endless afternoons

the heat has not left

help us, help us

autumn quivers,

bereft.
